Off Season Training for a Fierce Re-Entry tp the Trails Come Spring

You may be one of those DH or XC die-hards who will ride solid till a blanket of white lays under your tires. Good on ya! However, if you are nearing the end of the season and feeling a little antsy, it’s time to put that energy elsewhere. That said if you haven’t had a few weeks off now is the time to get some recovery time in. Bare minimum ‘two weeks’.

The spring season will be on us in no time. Make this spring your best entry yet. It won’t happen curling up on a cozy couch watching repeats of ‘Counterparts’ or ‘Days of Dirt’. Time to make a plan for your spring re-entry.

Early bird discount for ‘chicks’ and clients for dryland training in the studio!! LEARN MORE // REGISTER CLICK HERE Read the rest of this entry »

I love when people get it!

Recently, I presented a wellness workshop to a receptive group from School District 23 Support Staff. It is always a challenge delivering a message that will be positively recieved by such a large and diverse group. Aside from the odd ‘dear in the headlights look’ no offense, the session was directly after lunch, the group was very resondent.

I packed a great deal of information into a not so great amount of time. That said, the group was prompted earlier to come up with a question of interst and that allowed me to highlight some key areas I knew the group was interested in as I went through my presentation.

The bad news, we ran out of time before all the questions were asked. The good news, I’ve got a few dozen key topics from their questions that are worth blogging. Feel free to interact with us as we continue the educationi of wellness for this great group and our community!

Follow Sage Advice for posts and be patient with me…as you recall, my plate is a little full!

And SD23, I hope you’ve started something rolling…we’re over the 48hr mark!

…and the beat goes on!

Chicks first ‘rained out’ ride!

First ride back after my calamity and we get rained out! Whatup? I would like to personally thank Chris for the haven mini-van, that eight of us curled up in to wait out the thunder, lightening and downpour.

Unfortunately, light became an issue and dampered spirits and our ride was not to be. See you next week at the Annual Summer’s End Ride & BBQ @ Union.

Fall Fitness Accountability Tips

The Okanagan has a great selection of fitness centres, recreation programs, and training studios along with fitness retailers who can help you with your fitness programs.

There is a program for virtually every price range and personality. The mistake people make in choosing a good fit, is lack of preparation. If you do your homework now, when the cool weather brings you indoors, there will not be a lag in your activity regime. Align your program choice with your personality, values and existing lifestyle and you will be more apt to stick with fitness and ultimately success!

Do you prefer to be on your own, get inspired by variety, need accountability, intimidate easily, have limited scheduling choices or live a tight time or financial budget? Any one or more of these can be a potential obstacle to keep you from continued healthy living and gaining ground with fitness.

Solo exercisers may want to consider home workouts, intimate programs or training studios to avoid the masses. Socialites on the other hand, go big and boisterous. Visit your short list at a time you would be training so you get a feel for the culture, energy and type of patrons to ensure a connection will stick.

FALL FORWARD - BACK IN THE SADDLE MTB RIDE

Greetings 'Chicks'
...You are invited to our fall schedule of riding!
Calling back our nervous novice riders and MIA intermediates to dust off your saddles for our Wednesday night ride.

Light is an issue, so we encourage you to get to the shop and pick up a unit for your head or handle bars to light your way. We will not ride in the dark however, even at dusk a small light will have you riding at ease and with greater confidence.

Liz will be back on the saddle, perhaps a little rusty and slower than usual, however, many of you have had a layoff and will appreciate a steady climb and calculated descent! Come out and support you leader on her first ride back on the trails!

Meet: 5:30 Union Cycle
Crawford: Depart trail head 6pm sharp!
All Riders of all levels and newbies welcome!!

In Liz’s absence, Cory and Heather have done well to keep the die hards interested and encouraged through our summer months. We very much appreciate their efforts and if you haven’t thanked your leaders personally, now would be a good time.

You can thank your leaders and our awesome sponsors: Union Cycle, Team Fitness and Quality Greens at our Annual Rider Appreciation BBQ scheduled post ride on September 22nd. We will be on a ride prior to this event…a great way to end a ride but not the season. Riding will continue on Wednesday nights for all those interested. We meet a little earlier and all riders must have a light, for October riding!

If you been out to any of our rides, consider yourself invited to our BBQ: bring a friend and introduce them to ‘the chicks’ programs. Learn about what we have in store for our winter program and enjoy beverage, BBQ and blow out sales on bikes, gear and apparel!!
